Understanding China Through the Books Chinese Voices Are Reading
What book would you put in the hands of someone trying to understand China better? This was the question I asked Chinese scholars, creative professionals and civil society representatives, inviting them to share works of fiction and non-fiction that shaped their own understanding of the country: its politics, literature, society, history, and role in the world.
The result is a collection of short introductions that speaks to those with a general interest in China and to seasoned China watchers alike. Each of the texts was written by its contributor exclusively for this collection.
